Metro Director Roberto Roy delivered the order to proceed on construction of line 2 of the Metro Monday to the contractors that won the bid for the work, Norberto Odebrecht of Brazil and FCC Construction of Spain.
The amount of the contract os $1.8 billion. It is expected to create 4,000 jobs.
The line will be 21 kilometers and feature 16 stations between San Miguelito and Tocumen. It will have the capacity to transport 16,000 passengers an hour initially, and up to 40,000 passengers an hour once it is fully operational.
