17/11/2012 - President Ricardo Martinelli said today that small business development is the key to achieving economic and social development and at the same time reducing income disparity.
He made those remarks at his speech at the plenary meeting of the 22nd Iberoamerican Summit being held in the Spanish city of Cadiz.
"In Panama, we are betting on small businesses to give greater impetus to economic and social development and hoping that the economic balance reaches the entire population," said Martinelli at the session, presided over by King Juan Carlos.
He said these businesses need to be supported by making credit and job training available.
"Greater economic and commercial integration can open markets to new investment opportunities," said Martinelli, referring to the Ibero-American community, consisting of 22 countries in Latin America as well as Spain, Portugal and Andorra.
Panama will be the host country of the next Ibero-American Summit, in 2013.
