A partir del 11 de julio de 2007 hasta la fecha, a través de Panamá Emprende se han otorgado 222 nuevos avisos de operación para la venta de licor en toda la provincia de Los Santos.

Macaracas Mayor Eliécer Cortez said today that he will not issue any more liquor licenses for the district and will be keeping a closer eye on existing bars and discos.

Cortez made this announcement after a meeting with the representatives of different churches, civil societies and officials of the Ministry of Trade and Industry today to address the issue of the proliferation of businesses selling alcoholic beverages in the district.

The meeting was called after a report was issued stating that 14 licenses to seel alchohol have been granted since 2007.

Cortez said that he will instruct authorities to crack down on existing business to ensure that they follow the law regarding alcohol sales.

Los Santos Governor Armando Batista has requested the seven mayors of the province to refrain from issuing new permits. There have been 222 such permits issued in the province since 2007.
