19/12/2012 - Judge Yazmin Rangel today ordered the suspension of the hearing of indictment for the murder of the former Governor of Coclé, Darío Fernández, in Penonomé.
The suspension was given the absence of Onel Madrid, defence counsel for Joel Abdiel Guerra Flores, who is charged in the Nov. 6, 2011 shooting in San Antonio.
As the judge explained, Madrid gave notice that he would not be able to attend the hearing, claiming that he was ill.
Prosecutors have claimed the defense is stalling the case. The judge fined Madrid $300 and ordered a new hearing date of Jan. 10, 2013. The judge also ordered that public defenders be assigned to the case to prevent any further stalling.
