14/12/2012 - Frente Amplio por Colón Leader (FAC) Edgardo Voitier today accused the government of abandoning the roundtable dialogue that was established in November to find solutions to social problems fin the province.
"President Ricardo Martinelli suspended a dialogue that seeks a comprehensive solution for Colón, but does not suspend the campaigning, the politicking and continues to travel," said Voitier.
Colón and Guna Yala Bishop Audilio Aguilar was also critical of the government for not resuming the dialogue, which was suspended due to heavy flooding in Colón.
Voitier said that tomorrow leaders of the FAC will hold a meeting in San Félix, Chiriquí, with leaders of the Comarca Ngäbe Buglé and union leaders from Changuinola, Bocas del Toro.
"We made a strategic alliance with the poor people, who have nothing," Voitier said. "In January we will go to the streets. We will have simultaneous demonstrations in San Félix, Changuinola and Colón."
At the end of November, the FAC delivered a 33-point proposal to the government, which included a $500 million trust fund to pay for social projects in the province.
The government has not responded to that proposal.
