08/01/2013 - President Ricardo Martinelli will have to appoint, for the fourth time in his term, a new member of the Board of Directors of the Panama Canal Authority.
The term of Alfredo Ramírez expires in February. Ramirez, a founding member of the Molirena party, was appointed to the board in November 2003 during the administration of President Mireya Moscoso.
Martinelli has already appointed three new members: Marco Ameglio, Nicolás Corcione and José Sosa, in March 2010.
Meanwhile, the National Assembly, then controlled by the alliance consisting of the Molirena, Panameñista and Cambio Democrático parties, appointed Rafael Bárcenas as a board member in August 2009.
The Board of Directors is composed of 11 members. The chairman is the Minister for Canal Affairs, in this case Roberto Roy.
