11/02/2013 - Panama Tourism Authority Director Salomán Shamah said today that artists Wisin y Yandel will replace Don Omar as the headliner of the closing show of the Panama City Carnival Tuesday.
"After Carnival, we can explain and we can show what is the reality, but right now we can not spend time or energy in a conflict that we don't want to, it is not our conflict, what we want is to serve the Panamanian people," Shamah said.
Earlier today, Omar said that he was never issued a contract to perform at the Carnival. He said the $267,000 he was supposed to be paid for the show, which was the amount stated by the Tourism Authority, was incorrect.
"We do not have a signed contract much less for the amount that is being talked about," Omar said on his Facebook page, responding to allegations that he had cancelled the concert.
Shamah had said that the authority signed a contract with Ashé Entertainment Group for a total payment of $267,500.
"I am on the same page as you," Omar wrote in a message to his fans. "I am without any information about what happened and am waiting for answers. I have no reason to break any promises to my fans, but without a contract it ceases to be working and becomes a pastime."
Shamah had been heavily criticized about the amount that was to be paid to Omar.
