07/11/2012 - After more than three hours of talks, the government and civic groups from Colón managed to agree on the methodology for the dialogue between the two sides on the future of the community.
Minister of Government Jorge Ricardo Fábrega said the next meeting will be Monday.
Fábrega said that the two sides agreed to appoint a commission to investigate what led to recent riots in the city and the status of those who are still detained. Edgardo Voltaire, spokesman for the Frente Amplio por Colón, said that a commission was also appointed to discuss the issue of compensation to the victims.
The dialogue was ordered to bring an end to the 11 days of riots, which were prompted by the government's decision to sell land within the Colón Free Zone, which was widely rejected.
