23/11/2012 - Border patrol agency Senafront celebrated its fourth anniversary today at the headquarters in Meteti, in the province of the Darién.
Commissioner Frank Ábrego said that the agency has grown in the last four years, and that 40 percent of its members come from different indigenous ethnic groups of the country.
In recent years, the entity has confiscated 2,634 packages of cocaine, 3,076 marijuana plants, 150 packages of marijuana, 36 guns and $51,383.
"There are many who are protesting about what we do, but others support us for what we are doing," said the commissioner.
The agency has been criticized for the way it treats civilians in border areas. Some participants in a recent forum on the border patrol said the agency should improve its relations with the public.
