National Assembly President Sergio Gálvez has designated members José Muñoz and Raul Hernandez to find common ground on the electoral reforms with members of the opposition benches.
The decision occurred after Panameñista Legislator José Luis Varela reiterated his position that it was necessary to engage in dialogue to reach an agreement on the draft electoral reforms.
Gálvez, who had earlier rejected dialogue, relented and appointed Muñoz and Hernandez as the CD representatives.
The session was then recessed to allow that discussion to take place.
Two members of each of the opposition parties will participate in the negotiations. They are Benicio Robinson and Ruben De Leon of the PRD and Jorge Ivan Arrocha and José Blandón of the Panameñista party.
Panama Archbishop José Domingo Ulloa called for dialogue on the issue yesterday.
