01/05/2013 - Minister of Health Javier Díaz said today that it will participate in a dialogue with health union Conagreprotsa without imposing pre-conditions.
This comes after the union submitted a list of demands to the ministry that it says must be met before the dialogue can start.
"They can say that they have to pre-screen six of the seven points that they are presenting before sitting down at the table. But we are calling on them to go to the table of negotiations without preconditions," said Díaz.
He said that the union is demanding a second pay increase in less than a year, but the union claims the salary increase granted by the government is not what was promised.
The minister added that striking workers will face deductions from their salaries if they continue.
"Their salaries will be discounted because the strike is affecting policyholders," Díaz said.
Social Security Deputy Director Marlon De Souza reported that 400 surgeries have been suspended due to the strike. He also said that the union is blocking access to medical records.
"To retain a record is to threaten a patient's life," said De Sousa.
