29/11/2012 - During a ceremony this afternoon, Laurentino Cortizo and Samuel Lewis Navarro announced they would not seek the presidential nomination of the opposition Partido Revolucionario Democrático (PRD), clearing the way for Juan Carlos Navarro.
Both agreed to support to Navarro and signed a plan developed by Navarro on his plan for the government.
Navarro, who lost to Balbina Herrera in the 2008 presidential primaries, won the election for general secretary of the pasrty in August.
Cortizo and Samuel Lewis Navarro were part of a group of anti-Navarro PRD officials, but have changed their position.
Navarro is still opposed by several prominent PRD members, including Mitchell Doens and Francisco Sanchez Cardenas. They have said that Navarro has a supposed political pact with President Ricardo Martinelli.
