05/12/2012 - President Ricardo Martinelli was critical today of previous governments for not purchasing equipment to be used in cases of emergencies.
He made those comments during the delivery of seismographs and tide gauges to the University of Panama to establish a network to detect earthquakes and tsunamis. At the ceremony, the president insisted that this network should have existed in the country for many years.
He remarked that the government needed to buy only two machines to establish the network.
He also noted the recent drug busts from security agencies, and credited recent purchases in equipment for helping those agencies function more efficiently.
Finally, he said he had no more information about the investigation into the deaths of two Red Cross workers in Colón who were killed in a landslide recently.
