Martinelli meets with journalists

Hoy se realizó una marcha en defensa de la libertad de expresión.

President Ricardo Martinelli said that the government will have more respect for the media after a meeting today with representatives of press organizations.
 
Martinelli said that he will issue an official statement that will recognize the importance of the respect for freedom of expression and the free practice of journalism sometime in the next month.
 
Martinelli has come under scrutiny for his treatment of the press after he verbally assaulted journalist Hugo Famanía during a press conference. Famanía was at the meeting today, along with Núñez Montoto (president of the National Council for Journalism), Grisel Bethancourt (National College of Journalists) and Philemon Medina (Panama Journalists Union).

24/04/2012 - "We met and we talked, it is a point in which the country gains" Famanía said at the end of the meeting.

Medina said that the media representatives expressed "things that we have considered threats to freedom of expression and the exercise of journalism" to the president during the meeting.

Me parece bien, pero por otro lado, los periodistas deben entender que ellos también son figuras públicas y que no pueden llevar vidas licenciosas y promiscuas, metidos en borracheras o adulterando, o haciendo sexo oral en baños públicos o chinguiando noche y día en los casinos y luego salir con su “cara de yo no fui”, criticando a los demás

nuestro presidente no tiene palabra. esa promesa a los periodistas no durara, desgraciadamente. menos aun, cuando nuevamente tengan que informar sobre los resultados de las investigaciones en italia, donde los fiscales lo pescaron a el y a su hijo rica hasta el cuello. ya veran...

¿Cumplirá? Cuando él se ve arrinconado promete y concede, cuandos cree que paso el huracán vuelve a lo mismo. Ojalá Dios lo ilumine y no se repita la historia.
