Minister assures that missed classes will be recovered
08/05/2013 - Education Minister Lucy Molinar assured today that the three days of classes that will be missed this week due to the energy crisis will be recovered during the next school break.
She admitted that missing classes at this point in the year is a hardship, but noted that the country is going through a difficult time.
Energy Secretary Vicente Prescott mentioned yesterday that "the people all understand" that they should save energy, otherwise there will be blackouts.
He stressed that "yesterday, we quickly obtained a minimum reduction" in energy consumption. He said that this is key to avoiding blackouts, but greater conservation efforts are needed.
The government toughened measures to ration energy consumption in the public and private sectors. The Cabinet passed a resolution ordering the closure of supermarkets, cinemas, bars, casinos, discos and nightclubs from Monday to Thursday from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. It also limited the use of air conditioners in public buildings.
