17/10/2012 - The position of the National Dialogue Commission is that it is opposed to the bill that would allow the sale of land in the Colón Free Zone, Executive Secretary Jaime Jácome said today.
The commission issued an opinion opposing the sale in June, and Jácome said there has been no change in the group´s position. It also opposes the sale of shares the government owns in Cable and Wireless Panama.
"A position that is already approved and communicated both to the government and to society isn't going to change," the official said.
He said, however, that the opinions of the commission is not binding for the government to follow.
"They are simply suggestions made by representatives of civil society to the government," he said.
The commission meets Thursday and could reconsider the issue.
