Education union leader Nelva Reyes asked families today to support the teachers strike scheduled for Dec. 12.
Reyes said that the strike was called to reject the Executive Decree issued Oct. 30 that the unions say will lead to the privatization of the education system. Union leaders say that the decree was issued without going through the consultation process.
Reyes said that the decree was issued in the middle of dialogue between unions and the government, which added to their concerns absout it.
Minister of Education Lucy Molinar responded to the comments by stating that the government cannot have the unions approve every decision by the government because "they say no to everything."
