29/11/2012 - After a long negotiation, the University of Panama (UP) sold 325 hectares of land for $109.8 million to Tocumen S.A., which administers the Tocumen International Airport.
The land borders the airport.
University Rector Gustavo García de Paredes signed the contract for the school. The proceeds of the sale will help pay for the construction of other university venues in the interior of the country.
The airport has sought to acquire the land since 2010 to expand the airport.
Professor Eduardo Flores said the land should have been kept for the future expansion of the school.
