11/11/2012 - Partido Revolucionario Democrático (PRD) Secretary General Juan Carlos Navarro was pleased today with the start of the party's national registration drive.
"I am proud because all the registration centers are already open," he said this morning. "Our purpose today is to open the books of the PRD today to all those who want to accompany us to strengthen democracy and freedom."
The membership drive is the first test for Navarro since he was elected to head the party. The PRD wants to increase its membership so that it once again becomes the largest in the country.
Figures from the Tribunal Electoral indicate that the parrty needs about 10,000 new members to overtake the ruling Cambio Democrático (CD).
PRD Legislator Rogelio Paredes said that he expects the membership drive to "exceed expectations" and strengthen the leadership of the PRD.
