President Ricardo Martinelli said today that the Bay of Panama sanitation project will improve the health and quality of life of the inhabitants of all sectors of the capital.
"This is a great project," he said. "Governments do not like to do these works because they are projects that are not visible and costly."
Martinelli said that the government will have to make an addendum for the completion of the project so that it expands the scope of the coverage to East Panama.
He said it would be an injustice not to include that area.
He called on people to prevent littering in the rivers in th city, since that also contributes to pollution in the bay.
"Someday we can swim in the bay," he said.
Martinelli, in the company of Minister of Health Javier Díaz, made a tour of the project's water treatment plant today.
