03/01/2013 - Minister of Economy and Finance Frank De Lima said today that the population must focus on finding the positive things achieved by the country and not fall into negative things, such as the recent scandal of the brokerage house Financial Pacific (FP).
De Lima said that people wanting to harm President Ricardo Martinelli by linking him to the case "are doing damage to the country."
He said that "with all the noise" on the FP case, the image of the country is being impaired. In this regard, the official remarked that this government has worked on improving the image of Panama as a financial center.
"As a country, we have to sit and talk about the real problems like education, transportation, safety (...) and not mention this," he said, referring to the FP scandal.
The minister added that the published information "has been exaggerated beyond what it is."
The official also said that the relevant authorities should be allowed to do their research.
"This is in the hands of the authorities," he said.
