In an interview with Radio Panama Wednesday, University of Panama (UP) Rector Gustavo García de Paredes described as "false" articles that have appeared in La Prensa about irregularities in land deals he approved.
The official - who has led the school for 19 years - warned that he will take action against the newspaper without specifying what that would be.
According to experts in public procurement, the land deals were negotiated under conditions that were unfavorable to the UP.
García de Paredes described the reports published by La Prensa as "a terrible investigation" which only "tell falsehoods." According to the university authority, all transactions brought benefits to the school.
He said the lands in question will generate income for the school and will be returned at the end of the leases with improvements that will increase their value.
