Quentin Tarantino respondió a declaraciones de Uma Thurman de que puso en riesgo su vida al hacerla realizar una escena peligrosa con un auto en Kill Bill, calificando el incidente como "el mayor pesar" de su vida.
Pero mientras arreglaba las cosas con la actriz, el director era criticado en redes sociales el martes por comentarios que hizo en una entrevista en 2003 con Howard Stern que apareció en internet, en la que pareció defender a Roman Polanski por haber tenido relaciones sexuales con una niña de 13 años.
El incidente relacionado con Thurman se hizo público el sábado en un artículo en el New York Times en el que la actriz relató que Tarantino la convenció de que condujera un auto durante una filmación en México pese a que alguien le advirtió que podía estar defectuoso.
Dijo que le expresó su temor y pidió que un doble manejara en su lugar y que, irritado, Tarantino la convenció de que lo hiciera ella.
La actriz se estrelló contra un árbol y sufrió lesiones permanentes en cuello y rodillas y una concusión.
Un video que Thurman le proporcionó al Times —que le entregó el propio Tarantino— la muestra perdiendo el control del vehículo antes de chocar y ser sacada del auto momentos después.
En una entrevista con Deadline publicada el lunes, Tarantino disputó algunos de los detalles en el Times, pero dijo que es verdad que convenció a Thurman de que ella hiciera la escena, aunque no tan enojado como ella describe.
Dijo que él mismo había conducido esa vía y le había parecido totalmente recta, pero que se decidió que Thurman manejara en la dirección contraria y de algún modo había un giro que él no anticipaba. "Yo no la obligué a subirse al auto", dijo a Deadline. "Ella se subió porque confió en mí. Y me creyó". Dijo que ver el accidente fue "sencillamente horrible ... Fue desgarrador". Lo calificó como "el mayor pesar en mi vida".

Quentin Tarantino, was deeply regretful and remains remorseful about this sorry event, and gave me the footage years later so i could expose it and let it see the light of day, regardless of it most likely being an event for which justice will never be possible. he also did so with full knowledge it could cause him personal harm, and i am proud of him for doing the right thing and for his courage. THE COVER UP after the fact is UNFORGIVABLE. for this i hold Lawrence Bender, E. Bennett Walsh, and the notorious Harvey Weinstein solely responsible. they lied, destroyed evidence, and continue to lie about the permanent harm they caused and then chose to suppress. the cover up did have malicious intent, and shame on these three for all eternity.
