Family members of patients at the Regional Hospital Rafael Hernández, in the Chiriquí province, demand that health authorities address the shortage of medications at the facility.
Mario Hernández, whose father is a patient at the hospital, said that he and other relatives have had to provide all of his father’s medicines for the last four days.
Evelia Aparicio de Esquive, regional administrator for the country’s social security offices in Chiriquí, confirmed that there was a scarcity of certain fundamental medications, but said that she had been told that it only affected 10 percent of the facility’s inventory. According to Esquive, the only drug that is currently not available is somasina, a medication used for vascular disorders.
The administrator added that the hospital complex serves the entire population Chiriquí and Bocas del Toro and part of the Veraguas province.
